Tennessee representative says I-40 could open Friday, TDOT still working towards July 3
Faison posted on his state representative Facebook account Thursday, claiming the mudslides that closed the interstate would likely be “completely fixed.”

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Tennessee Rep. Jeremy Faison is saying there’s a “strong chance” I-40 at the state line reopens Friday, but the Tennessee Department of Transportation is still working towards the July 3 goal.
Faison posted on his state representative Facebook account Thursday, claiming the mudslides that closed the interstate would likely be “completely fixed.”
"There is a strong chance this mudslide will be completely fixed by noon tomorrow and the two lanes reopened!“ Faison’s post said. ”If all goes as planned, (and we know that life doesn’t always work that way) TDOT along with Blalock and Jones will be successful."
WVLT News reached out to Mark Nagi, a representative for TDOT, who said the official goal is still July 3.
