The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has given another boost to British fashion as she presented an award named in honour of the late Queen. Kate donned a striking green suit by designer Victoria Beckham as she handed out the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design at an event hosted by the British Fashion Council (BFC) at London's 180 Studios. The award is a celebration of sustainable fashion.

The accolade honours the influence of young British designers and the UK's flourishing fashion industry. It also acknowledges those designers who are pioneering sustainable practices and making a positive impact on the environment.

The future queen is making a gradual return to public royal duties after completing her cancer treatment and her visit to the cultural centre in the Strand, central London was not announced in advance.

Kate paid a visit to the winning designer's pop-up studio to see their sustainable designs in creation, and she engaged with other sustainable British fashion designers at the event, reports the Mirror.

Of Kate's outfit choice, a source close to the Beckhams told the Mirror: "The Princess of Wales has worn Victoria's designs before and it's really great to see that she's wearing one again, especially as the outfit was not gifted and was very much her own call to wear it. Both couples support each other's charities and David and William are friends too, so there is a great deal of mutual respect there."

Kate's show of support for Victoria's designer brand comes amid reports that the star is 'heartbroken' after a falling out with daughter-in-law Nicola Peltz.

Reports of a rift between Brooklyn Beckham and the rest of his family have been fuelled by the 26-year-old and his actress wife failing to attend dad David's 50th bash in Notting Hill, despite being in London at the time.
