World Faces A New “Trumptation"

Trump’s second term has unleashed global instability—economic turmoil, diplomatic uncertainty, and rising conflict—while his post-truth politics and erratic policies threaten world order and trust

World Faces A New “Trumptation

President Donald Trump has only completed three months of his second presidential term, but it feels as if the entire world is in the grip of a continuous political and economic earthquake due to his policies. Global stock markets are crashing, economic recession and diplomatic uncertainty are at their peak, and the increase in new trade tariffs has not only targeted China but also drawn criticism and pressure from America's long-standing friends and allies. NATO, the historic military alliance, is in a state of uncertainty, and global institutions like the World Trade Organisation are becoming increasingly ineffective.

Trump's stance is that "the market will recover soon. My aim is not to bring anyone down, but a little medicine is necessary for the illness." However, analysts believe this medicine is opening the door to a new and potentially more dangerous global recession, possibly even worse than the Great Depression of 1929. At that time, the U.S. imposed only 20% tariffs—Trump has pushed this rate to 25%. President Herbert Hoover's flawed policies were later corrected by President Roosevelt under the New Deal program, which brought some stability to the U.S. economy and global markets.

Today, Trump’s policies are once again severely affecting global economic stability. But this time, the impact of President Trump’s negative policies is not limited to the economy; he is also determined to completely reshape America's global image and its "soft power." According to him, “Our allies and friends have caused us more harm than our enemies.” He has shut down well-known international aid agencies like USAID and hinted at closing several other global aid organisations as well. These actions are severely damaging the goodwill the United States built over decades, particularly in the developing world.

All these factors point to the fact that Trump’s second term is not only a tough test for the global capitalist system but also a major threat to U.S. foreign policy, international diplomacy, and the geopolitical balance of the world. The controversial policies of his first term had not even been fully resolved when he began his second term with even more terrifying and complicated moves.

This time, the matter is not limited to mere statements or policies. The world has now entered an era that can be aptly called the age of Trumptations—a period centered on Trump's boundless global political delusions under the guise of protecting America. This is an era in which the negative consequences of Trump’s decisions simultaneously expose his bad intentions. It is a time when power silently tramples over principles, and destruction is all that remains.

Trump began his second term with promises of “ending wars,” but in practice, his approach and conduct have created fear, provocation, and uncertainty on a global scale

As a result of this “Trumptation,” certainty and clarity have vanished from global politics—as if decisions are being made in a fog of policy ambiguity. Under the banner of trade protectionism, Trump has dismantled the concept of a “free market.” Re-imposing heavy taxes on Chinese goods, questioning economic concessions to European allies, and further weakening the credibility of the World Trade Organisation are all actions that have placed both the American economy and the global capitalist system on the brink of collapse.

Be it the Gaza tragedy in the Middle East, the conflict with Iran, trade relations with Saudi Arabia, tariff complications with India, the Russia-Ukraine dispute, or the reshaping of economic ties with European countries—whether it’s trade disputes with China or border tensions with Canada and Mexico—Trump is trying to hit sixes and fours beyond his limits everywhere.

Now it’s not just about tariffs or price rates; the problem is that there is no clear direction or consistency in U.S. trade policy. One day, sanctions are imposed on a country, and the next day those same sanctions are lifted without explanation. This unpredictability has become a constant fear for the business community.

European and Asian markets are beginning to see American decision-making as unreliable. Global investors are caught in a dilemma—will next week bring them opportunity or loss? A transparent, rule-based trading system now only exists in books—in the real world, U.S. policy is based on “decisions,” which are more rooted in political strategy than ground realities.

The NATO alliance, which had been considered a pillar of global peace since the Cold War, now stands at a dangerous crossroads. Although Trump hasn’t officially withdrawn from NATO, he has severely undermined its spirit and mutual trust. He has repeatedly pressured other NATO countries to increase their defence spending and has issued threats to reduce America’s defence role.

As a result, European countries—especially France and Germany—have started efforts to make their defence independent of the United States. On the other hand, small Eastern European countries that were used by America as a shield against Russia have been left isolated. They now live in fear: if Russia seeks revenge, will Washington come to their aid? The collective defence principle of NATO, which was the core of the alliance, is now reduced to mere rhetoric.

Trump presents himself as a business-minded president, but in his new term, he seems intent on turning the so-called capitalist system into a discriminatory economy. Companies that align with Trump’s ideology or political interests receive facilities, contracts, and tax breaks while opposing businesses become targets of government institutions.

This style of governance violates the fundamental tenets of capitalism—such as free markets, competition, and transparency. Business is now being conditioned on political loyalty rather than profit or loss. Market confidence is shaken, and investors have to tread every step carefully.

Trump began his second term with promises of “ending wars,” but in practice, his approach and conduct have created fear, provocation, and uncertainty on a global scale. His foreign policy displays a contradictory blend of aggression, coercion, and self-appointed arbitration, which has ignited fires in sensitive regions like Gaza, Ukraine, and Iran.

The situation in Gaza has most starkly exposed Trump’s hypocritical foreign strategy. On one hand, he claims peace in the Middle East is his priority, yet on the other, he openly provided full support to Israel and rejected every possible voice for the Palestinians in the United Nations.

Trump’s informal statement that “evacuating Gaza is the solution” is tantamount to forcibly displacing the oppressed people of the entire region. His political approach has alarmed human rights advocates and diplomatic circles across the world. International human rights organisations have termed this a new form of genocide and a mindset that will further exacerbate the refugee crisis.

Trump had already withdrawn from the nuclear agreement (JCPOA) with Iran during his first term, and in his second term, he reimposed harsh sanctions. His statements have now reached the point of openly threatening military action and bombings.

U.S. defence experts now admit that wars haven’t ended under Trump—only America’s physical presence has decreased

He said, “If attacking Tehran is necessary to stop Iran, then so be it.” This kind of language has not only brought the region to the brink of war but also destabilised global energy markets and oil prices. European allies and the United Nations have labeled such statements dangerous, irresponsible, and against global peace.

The war in Ukraine, which has become a prolonged crisis due to Russian intervention, has seen Trump deviate from traditional U.S. support and adopt an exploitative stance. He has made it clear to Ukraine that “America’s military and political support won’t come for free—we need access to Ukraine’s mineral resources, especially lithium, nickel, and uranium.”

This mindset of war taxation has not only shocked the people of Ukraine but has also caused ideological disarray within NATO regarding Trump. Making U.S. support conditional on economic interests rather than principles reflects a modern colonial mentality.

Trump’s policies on Gaza, Iran, and Ukraine have gravely damaged the U.S.’s moral standing in the international community. America, once seen as a flag-bearer of justice, human rights, and freedom, is now viewed as a power nakedly using economic, military, and political coercion to suppress and blackmail nations.

There appears to be neither a sincere desire for peace nor any skill in transparent diplomacy in Trump’s current strategy. His so-called deal-making reflects a transactional mentality that is pushing the world’s most sensitive regions toward new conflicts.

Even U.S. defence experts now admit that wars haven’t ended under Trump—only America’s physical presence has decreased. After the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Taliban quickly regained control, and a new center of terror emerged there.

America’s retreat from the Middle East may once again give space to Iran, Russia, and other powers. North Korea has resumed missile testing, China is conducting increased military drills around Taiwan, and Israel has intensified operations in Palestinian territories. In comparison, the American response is limited to mere statements and ineffective actions.

This is a kind of “silent aggression” where America’s absence is pushing various regions of the world toward imbalance.

Well, that was the American perspective. The real question is: can the world bear the burden of America’s flawed policies and the resulting recession? Or will an alternative global system emerge to challenge America’s economic dominance? These are very important questions. But unfortunately, these serious issues have drowned in the flood of false stories spread by Trump’s supporters on social media.

Trump has thrown the world into a post-truth chaos…
