“Aubrey is a game changer at any point,” Paige Bueckers said. And honestly, could there be a better way to sum up Aubrey Griffin? When she’s healthy, she’s not just athletic—she’s explosively athletic. Like blink-and-you’ll-miss-it type of athletic. She’s the kind of player who knows exactly when to cut, when to dive for the board, and when to lock in on defense.
But—yes, there’s a but—injuries have kind of written the last few chapters of her story. A brutal ACL tear in January 2024 knocked the wind out of her season and, for a while, her rhythm. “Last year, I was watching from the side, so obviously, like, (this year) is so much different,” she said. But she didn’t stay down. She rehabbed, came back, and found her way onto the court once again. So after six long, twisty, hard-fought years in college basketball, what does Aubrey have in her bag?

And while we don’t have the exact dollar signs behind those deals, let’s just say being part of UConn women’s basketball is basically like holding a golden ticket in the NIL world.
Among those deals, one that stands out for its creativity is her partnership with The Players Trunk. Now, what’s The Players Trunk, you may ask? It’s a platform where athletes can sell signed stuff, game-worn gear, and even offer up personal experiences to fans.

Which high school did Aubrey Griffin attend?
Before she was repping Storrs blue and white, Griffin was making waves at Ossining High School. ESPN ranked her the No. 33 overall recruit in the Class of 2019, and sixth in her position. She was stacking up honors left and right. 2019 Miss New York Basketball, McDonald’s All-American honorable mention, WBCA All-American, and a 2018 NY Section 1 Player of the Year.
Oh, and she nearly made the 2018 USA team too. But then came her journey at UConn, which has been anything but smooth. She started in 2019 and had to stretch her stay all the way to 2025 because life happened. Injuries happened.
She missed all of 2021–22 with a back injury. Then came the ACL tear last year, and she sat out again. But thanks to the extra COVID year and a medical redshirt, she got her sixth year. And even though she’s started in 41 games, she’s often been the super sixth. That reliable, flexible option off the bench.
By the way, Griffin finished her degree in women’s studies nearly two years ago. Now, regarding what her future holds, she’s eligible for the WNBA Draft, but she’s not rushing. And that’s perfectly okay. Because her story reminds us of her dad—Adrian Griffin Sr.—who went undrafted out of Seton Hall, hustled in the minor leagues, and still made the NBA.

He ended up playing for the Bulls, Mavs, Rockets, Celtics, and even the Sonics. Resilience runs in the family, and if there’s anyone who can carve out a path like that, it’s Aubrey.

That said, this past season hasn’t exactly been her comeback tour. After returning from her ACL injury, she played in just 14 games. And while the flashes of her rebounding and playmaking magic were still there, her minutes were all over the place. For example, she barely clocked over 15 minutes in four of those games.
She often didn’t check in until the second half. Maybe it’s load management, maybe it’s UConn’s insane depth this year, or maybe her knee is still a work in progress. Whatever the reason, we haven’t had the full Griffin experience in a while. But we hope to witness that sooner or later. Because Aubrey Griffin isn’t done yet.
