Countrywide conflict displacement

A total of 85,532 people has been displaced by conflict since the beginning of the year, according to OCHA’s Displacement Tracking System (DTS) up by more than 2,100 people compared to the previous week. The DTS tracks displacements based on humanitarian inter-agency assessments.

Conflict Displacement Alerts

Displacement alerts are shared based on initial information from authorities or humanitarian partners on the ground. Numbers can change as more information becomes available.

Northern & North-Eastern Region: Nearly 2,000 people were reportedly displaced from Khalazai area of Pul-e-Khumri City to the centre. Conflict in Teshkan district of Badakhshan displaced around 4,000 to Darayem and Keshem districts.

Eastern Region: Nearly 600 people have reportedly been displaced from five districts in Kunar province, according to authorities. Further, clashes between armed groups in Nurgal district, Kunar, have reportedly displaced some 300 people within the district.

Southern Region: The displacement of some 2,100 people in Nahr-e-Saraj district, Hilmand, to the district centre Greshk reported in the past week, has been confirmed and humanitarian partners will deploy assessment teams shortly.

Western Region: Fighting in Shahrak district, Ghor, displaced around 5,000 people within the district and to DoLayna and Chaghcharan City, according to first reports (see access section). Fighting in Abkamari district, Badghis, reportedly displaced 560 people to the provincial capital Qala-e-Naw.

Natural Disasters and Drought

Two earthquakes on 9 May and one on 10 May with a magnitude ranging from 4.8 and 6.2 on the Richter scale were felt in Afghanistan. Around 500 houses have been damaged or destroyed, the majority of them in Badakhshan Province, according to ANDMA. Inter-agency assessments are ongoing.

Flash floods in Baghlan and Bamyan reportedly damaged 19 and destroyed 2 houses as well as agricultural land and roads.

In the past week, more than 15,000 people were verified as having migrated from Ghor and Badghis provinces to Hirat Province due to the drought. Authorities in Hirat have designated a location in Dasht-e- Hawz, 20 kilometres north of Hirat City, where these people will be able to temporarily settle and where they can be provided with emergency assistance.
