OVERVIEW

An 8.2-magnitude earthquake struck in the vicinity of Mexico and Guatemala on 7 September, killing 98 and affecting more than 1.5 million people.

Less than two weeks later, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Mexico City on 19 September, causing damage and loss of life throughout Mexico City and the state of Morelos and Puebla. As of 21 September, Mexican Civil Protection reports 273 dead but the numbers are expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue.
