DOHA: Indonesia’s National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) has received the Qatari aid assistance, which was directed by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to be sent to those affected by the earthquake and tsunami that hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

A C17 aircraft of the Amiri Air Force at the Ministry of Defence arrived yesterday in Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Airport in Balikpapan, coming from Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport, east of the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, carrying the Qatari aid which included medical supplies, first aid and tents, accompanied by a group of the international search and rescue team of Lekhwiya which handed over the relief assistance aid to the Indonesian side, represented by the BNPB which is concerned with distributing aid to those affected.

The standing committee for rescue and relief operations and humanitarian aids for areas afflicted by catastrophes in brotherly and friendly countries headed by Lekhwiya led the task of preparing relief materials and coordinating with the concerned authorities to deliver them to the affected areas.
