This postcard, postmarked May 25, 1911, describes the home pictured as “Just one of the summer homes here.”  Check out that rather minimal address on the back of the postcard.

Interestingly, only the stone wall remains of the original 150 Upper Mountain Avenue home pictured, the home of James N. Jarvie, an “internationally known coffee and sugar merchant and philanthropist.” Jarvie (1835-1929) was born in Manchester, England, and came to the U.S. with his family at the age of two.

The home was later demolished. It was rebuilt in 1962 in an equally lovely but different style—many call it the Chinese Pagoda House.
